Born and bred in the North East of England Bentley Beetham had a natural empathy with his familiar surroundings. His powerful photographs of the torrents cascading over ‘High Force’ while the river Tees was in full spate contrast to others in the collection where ‘High Force’ is almost completely frozen in the depths of winter as a spectacular waterfall of hanging ice.
Pictures of boys skating on the frozen river Tees beneath the ruins of Barnard Castle itself evoke images of a bygone era captured in a timeless frame.
